On behalf of Professor Braga de Macedo, Portuguese representative at the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and President of the Tropical Research Institute (IICT), we are pleased to announce that under the theme «Refocusing agricultural policies» of the workshop Committing S&T to Global Development, to be held in Lisbon by early October 2008, presentations concerning Biodiversity and Agricultural Research are being planned. Within this context, researchers from the Oeiras Research Institutes (BIOPOLIS consortium), LNEC and LNEG are invited to submit theirs abstracts electronically untill 30.04.2008, in Word or PDF format (compatible to Windows XP) to aribeiro@iict.pt according to the following guidelines.

Title: ca 25 words.
Authors: first, middle and last name separated by comma, the presenting author underlined.
Affiliations: Institution name, city and country (no street addresses) written in italics.
Text: ca 250 words.
Abstract selection: Abstracts will be pre-selected by a local committee whose members are listed below; pre-selected abstracts will be evaluated by the Scientific Council of CGIAR, chaired by Dr. Rudy Rabbinge.
Young Scientist Prize: a prize of US$ 5,000 will be awarded to the best presentation, based on the quality of the underlying research according to the the CGIAR Scientific Council.
